Judith Karman Hospice Training Next Week


Volunteer training classes begin September 15 & 16 with Judith Karman Hospice, a non-profit agency dedicated to providing physical, emotional, and spiritual care to terminally ill patients and their families in Stillwater and the surrounding area.  Volunteers are needed to work in patient care, bereavement services, office administration and in Karman Korner Resale Shop.

Stillwater Area United Way, Inc. Internship Opportunities


The Stillwater Area United Way is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing Stillwater residents with a social safety net.  We raise and allocate funds to 23 other helping agencies in the Stillwater area who help meet needs of our community members in the areas of health, education, and income.  We also partner with these and other agencies to make sure the needs of our residents are being met.  

Internships available

Interns are needed at the United Way to help in a variety of ways.  Job description for internship would include light receptionist work, marketing our services through newsletters, emails, facebook, and website, stuffing and delivering packets during fall campaign, coordinating and placing volunteers through our community Volunteer Center, working with the agencies on needs assessments, writing press releases, and other office duties as needed.

Applicable majors:  HDFS, sociology, marketing, public relations.

Internships are available in the fall, spring, and summer.  All internships are non-paid.

Looking for Public Relations Interns


Sadly, our PR interns, Allison and Mindee, won’t be SLVC interns next year. Allison is studying abroad and Mindee is interning in Oklahoma City.  So…

We’re looking for at least two public relations interns to help promote the Service-Learning Volunteer Center next spring. Interested? E-mail me (Cortney) at cortney.k.hicks@okstate.edu with your resume and we’ll set up an interview.

Internship Description

The Public Relations Intern will be responsible for assisting in developing the public relations strategy for the Service-Learning Volunteer Center, including brainstorming, creating, and distributing marketing materials.

Other duties include assisting with SLVC events, determining social media message content, creating and maintaining newsletters, and writing regular articles and PSAs.

Intern will work closely with SLVC Coordinator, SLVC Graduate Assistant, OSU volunteers and on-campus media.

Skills Needed

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to work from home
  • Creative and outgoing
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Comfortable working with and communicating with diverse groups of people
  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior
  • Prior or current interest in volunteerism is helpful, but not required!

Magical Mystery Tour: Birth Choice


On our November Magical Mystery Tour we visited Birth Choice and the Life Adult Day Care Center.

New director, Sandrel Jones-Webster, shared with us how Birth Choice strives to assist pregnant women with the means and opportunity to choose life. According to Birth Choice publications, the organization responds to the needs of pregnant women to become self-sufficient and positively contribute to society.

What Birth Choice Does

Birth Choice serves as a resource center for pregnant women for a variety of services, which include but are not limited to:

  • Complimentary pregnancy tests.
  • Complimentary Limited Ultrasounds.
  • Prenatal Assessments.
  • Prenatal vitamins.
  • Access to medical care.
  • Maternity & infant clothing as available.
  • Counseling & referrals when needed.
  • Community service coordination.
  • Transportation assistance.
  • Housing through Rose Home.
  • On-staff Hispanic translator.
  • Abstinence education.
  • Parenting education.
  • Post-abortion counseling.

Interested in volunteering?

Birth Choice is primarily staffed by volunteers. Volunteers must meet two primary requirements:

  1. Must be totally, unequivocally pro-life.
  2. Must be non-judgmental.

Potential volunteers first sign-up for a 3 hour introductory informational session. Sessions are offered periodically throughout the year on an as needed basis. During the session, volunteers are informed about Birth choice and various ways to volunteer with the organization.

Then the volunteer is asked to decide where and in what way they would like to volunteer. Opportunities include:

  • Working directly with women who need our services
  • Helping with physical needs
  • Providing transportation
  • Providing clerical support
  • Answering telephones
  • Working with special fundraising events

Seretean Memorial Wellness Walk for United Way
